On Dr. Aslam Abullah’s article: Election 2004 and Muslim leaders
Dr. Bashir Ahmed,
I personally like Kucinich as he strikes me as being the most open minded of the lot. However, some Muslim "leadership" will not support as Kucinich as some items on his platform are not agreeable to them such as approval of gay marriages (or so I have been told). So in your opinion, do you think we might consider supporting more than one candidate?

We have done that on a local level and it has helped us to create larger networks within the local political framework.

On Dr. Aslam Abdullah’s article
The fact that Muslim leadership in 2000 chose to go with Mr. Bush, is because the other candidate would not give us the time of the day. What choice did we have. To go with someone who addressed our concerns (only Allah Almighty knows what is in people's heart) or to support someone who completely ignored us and thought the Muslim vote did not matter. Al Gore made a mistake by ignoring us. He would have been in the White House today and probably a better President.

There is no question, we need to re-think our strategy. Unfortunately in our system, we only have a choice between the two parties, unless a very strong independent candidate emerges. While Dennis Kucinich might have little chance, he is in to influence the Democratic agenda. Muslims should take a serious look into supporting him.

US Elections
Dear friend, I read your article about elections in USA. Obviously of some organizations you mentioned the names thereof, we have lost trust in their capability
to make good judgement. We will make our own choices so that we are satisfied with whatever decision we'll make.

We in AZ. have already locally formed our Dem wing and Repub Wing and will depend on their recommendation and not any outside Org as the experience indicates they lack judgment power.

American Muslim Vote
I understand the pride we feel about our vote in Florida. I also know that most of our African-American Muslim brothers voted for Gore. Did we cancel each other out? More important- do we learn anything? are we coordinating our votes with them, for this election?.

We need to attend their meetings and include their concerns in our strategy-- viz housing, childcare- health insurance.

I know Muslims have raised funds for Senator Schumer in New York without any input from AMPCC. I am sure our Arab brothers would be enraged by this.

There must be some Muslim smart enough to create a way of interconnecting the Muslim groups.
in peace
